Terry & Marilyn Alexander
Masters of contemporary southwest art, Marilyn and Terry Alexander combine steel and fused glass with warm patinas and vibrant, liquid colors creating bold, unforgettable pieces that grace homes and gardens around the country.
Mariposa, Spanish for “butterfly,” shows the softer side of steel as she sends two winged beauties heavenward along graceful, arching metal, while the dichroic glass gleams in the sun. 11’ $12,500.
Desert Diamond features the same dynamic combination of metal and glass while adding a towering copper windcatcher that glints in the light even as it catches the breeze. $7,500.
Both pieces are powder-coated and protected against all imaginable weather. Outdoor installation is quick and easy, using steel cylinders (included) and concrete. Local delivery is free; local installation is an additional $300. (Call for information about far-flung locales.)
Mariposa and Desert Diamond—two pieces that honor their roots even as they reach for the sky. Available for sale at Thunderbird Artists Gallery, 99 Easy Street, Carefree, Arizona.
Gary Johnson
Gypsy
Under artist Gary Johnson, farm equipment takes on new life as the artist repurposes gears, chains, wires, and other found objects into stunning outdoor sculptures made of ferrous metals. Gary had a long and storied career working in metal, but Gypsy was a labor of love, dedicated to his cherished wife Della, an avid horsewoman who helped him create his magnum opus. $48,000. Local delivery and installation is free. (Call for information about more distant deliveries.)
Gary passed away in 2017, at age 67, but his legacy will never leave us.
